American Express Senior Gold Card Overview

This credit card is a pay-in-full credit card rather than a revolving credit credit card. Although you can request permission to pay in monthly installments for this card, American Express can choose to refuse this request for any reason.

In addition, if you wish to use your card for a cash advance at an ATM, you must have a checking account attached to the card. Otherwise, you will be unable to get cash while using this credit card.

The annual fee for this card is $55 – $85 based on your credit score. This is not a bad credit credit card; in fact, you if you have this card then you must have great to perfect credit. If your credit score falls too low, American Express will cancel your card and demand payment in full at the time of closure.

The only transaction fee associated with this card is the 2.7% transaction fee for foreign transactions. If you use an ATM, the only fee you will get is from the bank that owns the ATM.

American Express Senior Gold Card Considerations

  • This card is only for seniors
  • This card is not a revolving credit card
  • You have to get permission to pay over time
  • American Express reserves the right to cancel your card at any time for any reason

American Express Senior Gold Card Verdict

This card is no longer available from American Express and AMEX does not offer an alternative. Pay-in-full cards aren’t for everyone and one major downside to this card is that AMEX doesn’t provide interest information should you qualify for payments over time.

You need great credit to qualify for most of American Express’ credit cards so keep track of your credit at AnnualCreditReport.com, which is the only approved site according to The Fair Credit Reporting Act.
