Banana Republic Credit Card Fees and Rates
First in our Banana Republic Credit Card review, let’s look at the fees and rates for this card. There are two types of Bananacards: the original Bananacard and the Banana Republic Visa card. The Visa has better rates: 18.24% or 21.24%, depending on your credit. The standard Bananacard has a rate of 23.99%. Both types charge a 27.24% penalty APR on balances that are overdue. You can also get cash advances on the BR Visa, which are charged at a 23.24% APR. Both cards have late payment fees of $15-$39, depending on your balance, and an overlimit fee of $29. As far as fees and rates are concerned, the Banana Republic credit cards are average.
Banana Republic Credit Card Rewards
Next in our Banana Republic Credit Card review, let’s look at the rewards. For every dollar you spend at Banana Republic or any of its five affiliate stores (including Gap, Old Navy, Piperlime, and Athleta), you will earn five points. For every dollar you spend at other stores with the BR Visa card, you earn one point. You earn a $10 reward card to Banana Republic every time you earn 1,000 points. If you spend $800 in a year, you are also automatically upgraded to a Luxe card, which comes with other benefits like free shipping, free basic alterations on full-priced clothing, and 15% off on the day of your choice (with a regular Bananacard, you can only get this discount on the day you are approved for an account). There are also several days throughout the year on which you can earn double or even triple the points.
A Solid Choice for the Regular Shopper
To conclude our Banana Republic Credit Card review, we think that the card is standard and the rewards are decent, but only if you’re a regular shopper at the store or its affiliate stores. Since you earn five points for every dollar at these stores, your points can add up quickly. But if you rarely shop at Banana Republic, you may want to pass on this one. The Banana Republic credit card is the worst credit card ever!!! If you make a purchase outside of Banana Republic, the customer service is the worst! If you have a dispute and or returned they don’t even try to help you. I was disconnected three times and have not even resolved the issue. I urge anyone thinking about the Banana Republic credit card not to do it. What kind of customer service would talk over you and then say “I’ll connect you to someone that can help you” and disconnect you! And it seems that the customer service is based in India….I need to speak to someone in the US and that knows what they’re doing. I don’t dislike anything but I HATE this credit card.
I am not happy with this card. I had a balance due of $31.79 and was late to pay by not even a month and I was charged a late fee of $21. That is almost 70% of my balance due!
I too got connected to someone outside the US and while they were very nice on the phone, there was nothing they could do to help me.
I am an unhappy camper.
Why doesn’t the credit card have an online contact via e-mail or chat? If we go out of the country and use the visa card, we can’t contact anyone but by phone? Even otherwise within US it’s good to have an email or chat contact. It’s just good customer service.
I also think the late fee is too much. My late fee was the same fee as what I owed (because the balance was so low).
Thinking of getting this card, DON’T. There rewards bonus is crazy. I live about 2 hours away from a store, so i gennerally buy large amounts at a time. There cards expire after a short time and they will only take 3 at a time. I had $100 worth of rewards cards that had just expired just 2 days before and they would not take them. I use their card alot and i am a good customer. Customer service said tough luck, so i cancelled my card. I own a business and would NEVER do this to a customer. I will take my purchases to a card that appreciates their customers.
The customer service is really really bad. They don’t care about the customer feeling. SHOULD NEVER APPLY!
I opened a Banana Republic card two years ago, and the discounts I received from using the card were good. The interest rate is disgusting, but I don’t leave a balance ever so it didn’t matter. What attracted me to this card were the $10 rewards for every 1000 pts. However, over time, the $10 reward is not worth it anymore. I always read the fine print and here are the problems: 1) the reward makes you spend more than the reward value or you can’t use it. 2) No other discounts can be used with it because it deducts the amount from the items before the discounts. 3) If you have to return the item and want to exchange it, you can’t. You have to wait two billing cycles to get that credit back. 4)The reward is deducted across items ($1.50 off a tee, $3.00 off shorts, $5.50 of shoes), so if you return one item you only get a portion credited back to your card in the point format ($5.50 becomes only $5). 5) Any other promotions such as B2G1 free, don’t apply when you use the $10 reward. You can’t get ANYTHING free if you use the reward.
Lastly, making payments are a joke. They don’t accept payments at the store almost forcing you to pay online or else risk getting a late fee. Online payments are limited to ONLY 2 a month. You can’t make payments as you go like with other card. They restrict you and don’t tell you anywhere! Stay away until they change their policies.
