Banana Republic Credit Card Rewards

Next in our Banana Republic Credit Card review, let’s look at the rewards. For every dollar you spend at Banana Republic or any of its five affiliate stores (including Gap, Old Navy, Piperlime, and Athleta), you will earn five points. For every dollar you spend at other stores with the BR Visa card, you earn one point. You earn a $10 reward card to Banana Republic every time you earn 1,000 points. If you spend $800 in a year, you are also automatically upgraded to a Luxe card, which comes with other benefits like free shipping, free basic alterations on full-priced clothing, and 15% off on the day of your choice (with a regular Bananacard, you can only get this discount on the day you are approved for an account). There are also several days throughout the year on which you can earn double or even triple the points.

A Solid Choice for the Regular Shopper

To conclude our Banana Republic Credit Card review, we think that the card is standard and the rewards are decent, but only if you’re a regular shopper at the store or its affiliate stores. Since you earn five points for every dollar at these stores, your points can add up quickly. But if you rarely shop at Banana Republic, you may want to pass on this one. The Banana Republic credit card is the worst credit card ever!!! If you make a purchase outside of Banana Republic, the customer service is the worst! If you have a dispute and or returned they don’t even try to help you. I was disconnected three times and have not even resolved the issue. I urge anyone thinking about the Banana Republic credit card not to do it. What kind of customer service would talk over you and then say “I’ll connect you to someone that can help you” and disconnect you! And it seems that the customer service is based in India….I need to speak to someone in the US and that knows what they’re doing. I don’t dislike anything but I HATE this credit card.

I am not happy with this card. I had a balance due of $31.79 and was late to pay by not even a month and I was charged a late fee of $21. That is almost 70% of my balance due!
I too got connected to someone outside the US and while they were very nice on the phone, there was nothing they could do to help me.
    I am an unhappy camper.

Why doesn’t the credit card have an online contact via e-mail or chat? If we go out of the country and use the visa card, we can’t contact anyone but by phone? Even otherwise within US it’s good to have an email or chat contact. It’s just good customer service.
I also think the late fee is too much. My late fee was the same fee as what I owed (because the balance was so low).

Thinking of getting this card, DON’T. There rewards bonus is crazy. I live about 2 hours away from a store, so i gennerally buy large amounts at a time. There cards expire after a short time and they will only take 3 at a time. I had $100 worth of rewards cards that had just expired just 2 days before and they would not take them. I use their card alot and i am a good customer. Customer service said tough luck, so i cancelled my card. I own a business and would NEVER do this to a customer. I will take my purchases to a card that appreciates their customers.

I opened a Banana Republic card two years ago, and the discounts I received from using the card were good. The interest rate is disgusting, but I don’t leave a balance ever so it didn’t matter. What attracted me to this card were the $10 rewards for every 1000 pts. However, over time, the $10 reward is not worth it anymore. I always read the fine print and here are the problems: 1) the reward makes you spend more than the reward value or you can’t use it. 2) No other discounts can be used with it because it deducts the amount from the items before the discounts. 3) If you have to return the item and want to exchange it, you can’t. You have to wait two billing cycles to get that credit back. 4)The reward is deducted across items ($1.50 off a tee, $3.00 off shorts, $5.50 of shoes), so if you return one item you only get a portion credited back to your card in the point format ($5.50 becomes only $5). 5) Any other promotions such as B2G1 free, don’t apply when you use the $10 reward. You can’t get ANYTHING free if you use the reward.

Lastly, making payments are a joke. They don’t accept payments at the store almost forcing you to pay online or else risk getting a late fee. Online payments are limited to ONLY 2 a month. You can’t make payments as you go like with other card. They restrict you and don’t tell you anywhere! Stay away until they change their policies.

I have had two calls from who is suppose to be the bank that handles Banana Republic credit cards. You can not understand what they are saying for one. Second they asked me for my full social security card number; we all know that s a red flag. When I wouldn’t give them my name or phone number or SS number they seemed to all of a sudden find my account. They told me what I owe (I owed nothing) but they said I did. When I asked to talk with a Supervisor they put me on hold for 25 minutes and I hung up. I will be canceling that card when I’m finished here.

the BR visa has the worst customer service of any credit card i have ever used. the fraud alert department and the customer service department do not communicate what so ever. further, i had fraud on my account and had to cancel my card. BR refused to overnight me a new card (so i was without a credit card for 10 days) and refused to refund disputed charges. Further, they would not let me use customer service via the phone and made me go into a BR store to “verify my identity”. Then, when i finally got the new card, all of my rewards had been eradicated. I called customer service, again, only to have them tell me that the rewards department is “entirely separate” and does not communicate with them. They could not tell me why my rewards had been eradicated or whether i would get them back. bottom line, not worth the hassle and terrible customer service.

I am a little perplexed by all of the very negative reviews of the Bananacard. I have been a card-holder for around 8 years and have not had any major problems in that time. Yes, the APR rates are very high, but I never carry a balance and so don’t have any problem with that. The major bonuses for me are (1) the reward level is 5% of your purchase, which is far better than any generic rewards credit card, and you get rewards accross the GAP brands; and (2) free shipping when you use the card on orders over $50, or if you have a Luxe card, free shipping all the time. The online payment is very convenient, and you can set up to have them e-mail you when a payment is due in order to prevent missing payments.

That said, the card is not perfect, but I am not sure it is any worse than most other department store cards. Yes, the rewards from rewards cards are divvied up over the items you buy (so, if you return the item you lose the reward) and that is kind of annoying, and yes the reward cards have a shelf life, but I have (on more than one occassion) used an expired reward card, esp. if I am making a not-insignifcantly sized purchase. Also, on the couple of times that I have received a late fee for not getting my payment in on time, I just call and talk with customer service, and (probably because I am an otherwise good customer who pays on time) usually have been able to get the fee waived. Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

Bottom line: If you don’t carry a balance on your credit cards and shop at BR/Gap at least a moderate amount, it is a great deal.

This is the worst card I ever had in my wallet. They cancelled my card twice, once because I made travel expenses and didn’t respond to their verification phone calls (which I never received!) and the second time because I trashed a replacement credit card which was never requested by me (thinking it was a mistake). Customer service is unbearable, they cutt you off multiple times, they refused to disclose their names when asked for, they don’t rtansfer you automatically to other departments, and their phone system is very unfriedly and difficult to navigate. I am thinking to close my account and stop using this card.

Idiots who provide ZERO customer service, then thank you for being a valued customer. Totally thoughtless, ineffective automation. They denied a charge (for dinner, in front of my friends) because they said they didn’t receive payment. I have made all my payments on time, and it was the last payment they say wasn’t made. I have the payment confimation from my bank. My bank says they have the funds, and have misapplied it to another account. I have to prove to them it was made, and then I have to follow up to see if the account was settled and unfrozen. NO SERVICE offered by them. NO follow up by their “customer service” for my inconvenience. NOTHING. Really frustrating, maddening and a new low in service.

I was using Banana Republic for purchasing large amount of clothing for a fashion shoot and returning everything after, but they refunded me $79 in the wrong card (they did not credit back to banana republic). I call them for have help but they can do nothing and not try to be helpful at all, result I needed to pay this $79 for nothing and because of their mistake. Worst experience.

Okay First off I want everyone reading comments that are from before 2013 to consider them null. They totally revamped the entire customer service platform to serve our customers as best as they can, as well as implementing a new service model in all Banana Republic stores. I work at BR and actually have my own Banana Republic Luxe Visa and I love it. It is a great card if you plan on NOT keeping a balance month to month because yes the APR is high but I manage to pay it off every month and enjoy the benefits. There are two separate cards you can get and its just based on credit history to begin with, in the end if you just get the store card it still works at ALL Gap Inc. Having the visa you can earn 5pts per dollar in all gap inc stores and 1pt outside of them. so pretty much i use my card for everything and just pay it off on the app on my phone and they even run triple points for using the card outside of gap inc. so like right now for the month of july if i buy some fast food i get 3 points for every dollar. All in all, if you shop in BR, Gap, or Old Navy I say get the banana card. There are days they offer 20-25% off for signing up and also Banana republic offers a student, military, teacher, and senior discount everyday just you have to ask.

BIG fan of the BR Visa CC – I shope at BR for myself and shop at Gap & Old Navy for my children. The rewards system is the best. The perks are amazing and those triple point offerings are great. Another item of note is the free alterations, this is a huge bonus when you consider the length of trousers at most stores, they usually need to be hemmed. BR offer this as a free service, saving at least $30 for hemming etc.,

I would completley disregard all the negative points above. The customer service in my opinion is great. I have found them nothing but helpful, be it a question about my bill, returning an item, redeeming coupons/gift cards etc.,

terrible service. also, it’s ridiculous that you
can only make online, or phone payments using a check, not
a debit card. virtually no one under the age of 25 actually
carries a checkbook with them, some don’t even have one, as many
apartments accept debit cards for rent payment.
