There’s a reason that they say dog is man’s best friend. Dogs are loyal, loving, and always excited to see you. They make wonderful companions and can also be trained to work and help mankind. All pets are wonderful in the way that they provide companionship to human beings, and most human beings return the favor by being devoted to their pets.

In fact, if you are devoted to your pets, there was a time at which you could have opened a credit card that would have a picture of your own pet on it and allow you to earn rewards towards pet-related items.

A Change in Plan

Unfortunately, Bank of America no longer offers the Pet Rewards Visa. With the recent economic downturn, many credit issuers have had to drastically cut down on the number of credit cards they offer. Retailers are feeling the pinch, too. Many of them, including those who sell pet-related items, are having to cut back on the rewards programs they offer because they simply can’t afford to offer the same discounts that they used to back when times were good. It’s too bad, but you can no longer have a credit card with your pet’s adorable likeness imprinted on it.

There are Other Options

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still earn rewards. Many companies, including Bank of America, still offer credit cards with excellent rewards programs. Many of these rewards networks include retailers that sell pet products. And some of them will even allow you to put the image of your choice on the card, so you can still put your pet’s likeness on the credit card that you use to buy his toys and treats. And some rewards programs give you the option of earning cash back, so even if your favorite pet shop isn’t part of that rewards network, you can still earn cash toward purchases for your pet.

Give Generously

But if your pampered pet really doesn’t need discounts on his treats and toys, then you may want to consider opening a Bank of America the Humane Society of the United States Platinum Plus Visa Credit Card. This card allows you to earn one point for every dollar you spend on the card, and those points can be redeemed for rewards, cash back, or a donation to The Human Society of the United States. Your pet already has a comfortable home with you. It might be a good idea to share your rewards with a pet that is still waiting for a good home.
