A debt-to-income ratio is a ratio of all personal debt to personal or gross income. Lenders may consider your debt-to-income ratio when applying for a mortgage loan. If you have a high amount of debt in respect to the amount of income you earn, you may be forced to pay higher interest rates or even be declined.
