Equitable division is a method of dividing assets when two people are getting divorced. This method is more flexible than the community property division method. Though each state has its own set of guidelines, there are some factors that are hold true for the majority of the states when dividing marital assets. This includes the duration of the marriage, responsibilities and needs of each party, age and health of each party, income sources and amounts for each, and what each individual had contributed during the course of the marriage.
