You’ve taken all the tests, filled out all the applications, and finally been admitted to college! But now comes the hard part – paying for it.

College is very expensive, costing $25,000- $50,000 a year on tuition alone. And of course then you have the extra costs of books, housing, food, etc… So, how are you supposed to pay for it? Luckily, there are simple things to do to help pay for your college.

The first thing to do is apply for financial aid. Even if you think getting financial aid may be a far stretch for you, it never hurts to apply. And you may even be surprised at what you can get. FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is the document that the government uses to assess a person’s financial need. File this application on time with all the data you need. By filing your FAFSA, you can get grants, money that the government will give you for free. You can also receive student loans, which you will eventually have to pay back. Financial aid can be incredibly helpful for many students struggling to make ends meet.

Unfortunately, financial aid is not always an option for everyone. It can be very hard to land, even for those who need it. So, if you do not receive any financial aid, don’t fret. There are various other things you can do. For one, look into national and local scholarships. Many schools, employers, nonprofits, religious groups, and professional and social organizations offer scholarships. These will help you pay for your schooling at no cost. You won’t even have to worry about paying them back. Plus, you can apply for as many scholarships as you’d like. You may be surprised how much money you can get.

Also, doing simple things like going to college in state and keeping your grades high can help a lot. Out of state tuition can be double the price of normal tuition, and you’ll need to factor in transportation and living costs. Staying in state can be an easy way to pay less. Students with high grades can also receive merit-based aid. So, make sure to keep your grades high, and you may receive aid awards.

Another great option is to look into other lenders. If you haven’t received financial aid or scholarships, there are many alternative lenders that can help you. Many banks offer loans to students that can easily help you pay for college. Do your research, and read up on the terms and conditions before signing just any student loan. But once you do, these loans can be very helpful in paying for your college education.

Getting a college degree is important these days, so don’t let your finances deter you from going to school. Paying for college is not impossible. Although there may be some obstacles to overcome, there are easy things you can do to earn money to pay for your college degree!
