There are two different types of credit report inquiries. A “hard” inquiry is performed by a lender when an individual asks for a loan. The potential lender will look at the borrowers past credit history in order to help them make an informed decision. A “soft” inquiry is what credit cards company do when looking for new customers. They look at the credit report in order to decide whether or not to mail an offer for a credit card.
