The Mail Order / Phone Order business dates back to the early 1900′s and gave folks in remote locations a way to purchase goods and products. The Mail / Phone Order Merchants originated in order to connect the larger department stores and businesses with consumers that were not near a walk-in store.
The Mail Order merchants mailed out catalogs for the customer to shop through. Purchases were made by mailing in an order form and calling in an order to the Mail Order Merchant. They took the orders, some form of payment, and arranged for the goods to be shipped to the customer by mail or carrier.
As the Mail Order Merchants have moved into the Internet, catalogs and transactions are all online, and can easily be done from home.
