M&T Bank offers consumers three types of Visa credit cards: the standard M&T Visa Credit Card, the M&T Visa Credit Card with Rewards, and the M&T Visa Signature Credit Card. All three cards carry M&T’s exclusive payWave technology to speed checkout at participating retailers. Simply wave your card near the processing machine and you’re on your way.
M&T does not offer online application except to existing customers who have also established an online account. All others need to visit a local branch or call a toll-free number listed on the M&T website in order to apply. Compare online credit card offers here!
All three cards look identical except for the color. The standard and rewards cards are different shades of green, while the Signature card is gray. All three feature the plain Visa logo rather than the Platinum Rewards logo.
M&T Bank Credit Card – Standard Visa
The standard M&T Bank credit card has the lowest APR of three at 9.24% to 16.24% for purchases and balance transfers. A six-month introductory rate of 0% applies to all balance transfer credit card activity.
Additional benefits of the classic card include no annual fee, overdraft protection, zero liability protection against fraudulent card use, and M&T’s Debt Cancellation Plan to protect you in case of unemployment or disability.
M&T Bank Credit Card – Visa With Rewards and Visa Signature
The Rewards and Signature cards are both free of any annual fee. Their APR for purchases and transfers is 11.24% to 18.24% and, like the standard card, both offer the same six-month, 0% rate on balance transfers. All of the additional benefits listed for the standard Visa also apply to these two cards.
In addition, holders of both the Rewards and Signature cards earn one reward point for every dollar spent. During the first six months the reward points are doubled. Unlike many other rewards credit card programs, M&T’s program awards points even for bill paying, as long as the transaction is processed through Visa U.S.A. Points are redeemable for gift certificates, merchandise, travel and cash.
Signature card holders have additional perks including no pre-set limit, travel protection and other exclusive services, Visa concierge service, special offers from participating merchants, and preferential treatment at certain entertainment events.
