Phishing is an attempt by a third party to obtain personal or private information that can later be used to steal the victim’s identity. The information is stolen by sending an email that appears to be from a legitimate company, but in reality when the link in the mail is clicked, the user is directed to another website that was created for the sole purpose of collecting personal data. Once the user is sent to this website, they will be asked to enter information like passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers or bank account information.
