The WNBA has struggled for years to gain some sort of foothold in the sports world. So it is no wonder that fans cheered in 2004 when the WNBA announced that Discover was going to support a Sacramento Monarchs credit card that represented the WNBA with its team logo. Unfortunately, this card was only offered for one year and then the offer was terminated for lack of interest.

The Sacramento Monarchs were one of the first teams in the WNBA. They made it to the playoffs nine times and won for the first time in 2005. They won their western conference in 2006. Get more credit card offers now!

These successes didn’t stop them from facing financial difficulties and they were disbanded in 2009. Don’t worry, if you had a favorite player most were drafted to other teams in the WNBA.

Sacramento Monarchs Credit Card Overview

Although it is no longer available, the Sacramento Monarchs credit card was a Discover affinity credit card. A donation would be made to Sacramento Monarchs supported charities each time you used the card. This donation was 1/4 of 1% of every $100 you spent.

In addition, as a rewards credit card, you would receive cash back credit card rewards for purchases made. The cash back amount ranged between 1% to 5% depending on the type of purchase you made. Since this card was a Get More card, you were able to switch your reward categories so that you could earn more points for purchases you made more often. These categories included gas credit card rewards, travel, groceries, apparel, restaurants, movies rewards and more.

There was no annual fee for the Sacramento Monarchs Discover card. In addition, reward points never expired and there were no limits on how many points you could collect. You were able to redeem rewards for merchandise, travel, gift cards and more.
