Starbucks Credit Card Those seeking a Starbucks credit card need to know the story of this one time item. Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was the Starbucks Duetto Visa Card. This was a card that was offered by Chase for those who couldn’t live without their Starbucks coffee.

However, in April of 2010, Starbucks sent out a notice to all of their cardholders that they would not be renewing their contract with Chase. In addition, they would have the option of transferring all of their rewards credit card points to their new Chase Freedom credit card, if they still qualified to carry the card.

The truth is that this angered a lot of Starbuck fans; however, both companies claim that this was a joint decision and that neither company was unhappy with the service being provided, only that it was time to end the partnership.

Starbucks Credit Card – The Chase Card Alternative

The Chase Freedom credit card is not a great replacement for the Starbucks credit card. Mainly, the reason for this is that the Chase Freedom is a cash back credit card that offers cash back on a quarterly basis. The Starbucks credit card accrued points that could be used to redeem coffee, discounts and such for all things Starbucks.

The Chase Freedom card offers 1% cash back on all purchases and an additional 4% cash back on certain items at certain times of the year. What this means is that you will have to keep track of the rewards credit card program to know where you can use your card to earn additional cash back on your purchases.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, in fact, it allows you to spend the way you want and still get rewarded.

Starbucks Credit Card – Chase Freedom Benefits

  • 0% APR for 6 months on purchases
  • 0% APR for 12 months on balance transfer credit card transactions
  • Up to 5% cash back on purchases
  • Low starting APR of 11.99% (as much as 22.99%)

Starbucks Credit Card – Chase Freedom Considerations

  • Requires good to excellent credit
  • Penalty APR of 29.99%
  • No extra rewards for buying Starbucks coffee or products

While the Chase Freedom card is a good credit credit card with a great interest rate for those of you with excellent credit, you may want to find a card that suits your spending style better.
