    at the end of the day cash is king. it might not be the safest way to travel having hundreds of dollars/yen in your pocket but it is hard for any business owner here in the states or abroad to resist cold hard cash.

  2. i wish i had stories of international travel with credit cards and nothing else but my work situation among other things keep me tied in this part of the world. I am looking forward to reading other people’s experiences

    I was in Hong Kong with my mom when I was younger and she went to take out $1,000 from the bank and instead took out $10,000. She was surprised the bank let her do this (granted this was years ago)!

    I think it completely depends on where you are going, but for the most part I would say no — unless you’re using that credit card to take out a cash advance from an ATM ;)

    I’ve also noticed that even within the US things vary quite a bit regionally. The further west I go (which in my case would just mean to California) the more people accept credit. The further east, the fewer people do.
