Logan, Utah is the site of the campus of Utah State University, a major research university tracing its roots back to 1888 when it was founded as the Agricultural College of Utah. The school’s Alumni Association supports the university through a variety of programs including the former Utah State University credit card, in conjunction with affinity credit card issuer PartnersFirst. PartnersFirst currently issues dozens of credit cards in both Visa and MasterCard flavors.
As with most other affinity credit card programs, the Utah State University credit card earned donations for the school’s Alumni Association upon every approved application, as well as ongoing donations as cardholders used their cards. The Association used the funding to financially support its programs and services. Find other online credit cards now!
The PartnersFirst website provided the only means of application for this credit card. While the application form and terms and conditions are no longer available, if the Utah State University credit card was similar to other PartnersFirst offers, applicants were required to be at least 18 years of age and provide personal and income information.
Utah State University Credit Card Agreement Ends
Early last year, Utah State University announced the agreement with PartnersFirst ended effective April 12, 2010. No explanation was given for the program’s termination, but the university made clear its intention of not seeking a new credit card partner at that time.
Current cardholders were able to continue using their cards for a time until a new, generic PartnersFirst card was issued as a replacement. All further questions regarding the program were referred by Utah State University to PartnersFirst.
Utah State University Credit Card Offer
When the university first published the offer for this credit card, an introductory APR of 0% was included for all purchases and balance transfer credit card transactions for the first six months. The credit card was a branded MasterCard product, and eligible for the USU points rewards credit card program in which cardholders could earn points for purchases made anywhere MasterCard is accepted. Double points were earned when the card was used on campus.
It is unclear whether PartnersFirst still honors the Utah State University credit card, or whether all accounts have been replaced with a generic card. A visit to the PartnersFirst website yields no further information. Find currently available online credit card offers now!
